Louis & Louboutins

As I'm struggling to concentrate on writing my essay about identity and appearance for my cultural and historical unit, I thought I'd share one of the more interesting pieces of information I've learnt. During Louis XIV's court in the 16th century, red heeled shoes were a sign of nobility and status. Centuries later, Christian Loboutin claimed that having seen a man walk into his shop, pick up a pair of shoes, look at the bottom of the shoes and promptly put the shoes down and leave the shop, he realised that the sole of the shoes should have a selling factor. So he took influence from the 16th century and splashed red paint over the soles of the shoes. Other colours, such as green were trialed too, but none were as popular as the bold red.

Lucy Williams

Ever since my Grandma sent me a newspaper clipping from The Daily Telegraph about 'The Fashion Week Tribes' I've been able to put a name to these pictures I'd previously collected. Lucy Wiliams is fashion assistant at InStyle magazine. I love her casual looks and combinations of beige, grey, red, white and black.
